Proof Coins

Proof coins are minted by means of a special method.

This produces a shiny, frosty or mirror-like finish on the coins and very sharp
features.

This is accomplished by striking the coins twice with significant force using highly polished dies.

The result is a coin that is more aesthetically pleasing than regular issue coins.

Although proof coins do have a legal tender value, they are not
intended to be used in commerce. Rather, proof coins are specially
minted for sale at a premium over their legal tender value to
collectors, or as gift items or souvenirs and show pieces.
