David, ya got me curious about the use of weight as a determiner of
coin genuiness!!!!!!!!!

While info. abounds, as you mentioned per se, in your post, about
specific weights documented for US coinage, I found a very
interesting historical tidbit from the Gold Rush days using the
balance-beam scale method of known weights to weigh out the gold
dust and nuggets that became part of our US Gold coin Mintage.

I pose to this room the following question~~~~~~~~~~ does anyone
know the name of the modern-day firm that had it’s beginnings by
manufacturing and selling balance-beam scales that were used to
weigh the gold that became our US Gold Coinage of the 1800′s???
